Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then found multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important political figure stated the attack rendered him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
